Cycle to Cessation: Estrogen is the Architect of Women’s Health

Dr. Colleen Norris PhD

(Epidemiology) MN BScN RN FAHA FCAHS FESC

Location: Gymnasium

The reproductive transition is one of the most significant yet least recognized periods in a woman’s health journey, with profound implications for cardiovascular, metabolic, bone, cognitive, and mental health. This presentation explores why estrogen is the architect of women’s health, how hormonal changes beginning in the late reproductive stage influence disease risk, and why earlier recognition and evidence-based intervention are critical. Attendees will gain practical strategies to identify women who may benefit from timely assessment, understand current evidence for lifestyle and hormone-based interventions, and appreciate the role of innovative, nurse practitioner-led models of care in closing longstanding gaps in women’s health services. Drawing on emerging research and the first publicly funded virtual menopause clinic in Canada, this session will challenge conventional thinking and provide actionable insights that can immediately improve care for women across the reproductive transition.

Attendees will walk away understanding the multiple factors that influence sleep beyond hormones, a clear framework for identifying their own root causes, and practical, holistic strategies to start using right away. Combining clinical insight with a warm, relatable approach, this session empowers women to move from frustration to clarity — and to advocate for the rest they deserve.

The Three Foundations of the Menopause Transition: A Chinese Medicine Approach to Balance, Resilience & Your Second Spring

Stephanie Grozell

R.Ac & Pilates Instructor

Location: Activity Room 1

Menopause is often approached through the lens of symptoms, decline, and something to be fixed, but Chinese medicine offers a different perspective. It views this stage as a natural transformation that invites us to better understand our bodies and support our changing needs. In this experiential presentation, we will explore the three foundations of Chinese medicine, Jing, Qi and Blood, and Yin Yang balance, and how these concepts relate to the physical, emotional, and energetic changes experienced throughout perimenopause and menopause. Through education, guided movement, breathwork, body awareness, and an introduction to acupuncture and acupressure, attendees will experience practical ways to reconnect with their bodies, support regulation, and build resilience through this transition. Participants will leave with a deeper appreciation of their body’s wisdom and a new framework for navigating midlife with confidence and trust.
